About

The Gates Garden Club was founded in 1968 and became a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York the next year.  The club provides a venue for its members to share their love of gardening with others and the community.  The club meetings are educational and informative.  We have outside speakers as well as members share their knowledge.  In the past the club has had projects with schoolchildren and provided crafts and garden related stories with younger children at the library. Over the years the club has worked with nursing homes, MS patients, and helped with holiday decorations at Hinchey House.

Active involvement with the town of Gates has been longstanding. The club has planted and maintained a garden outside the town hall for over fifty years.  We’ve added a small garden at Wegman Road Park and weed and maintain the butterfly garden planted by Eagle Scout projects at Westgate.  For the past few years, the members have planted the large town pots and planters which are placed around Gates and maintained by the town.

Our active members continue to contribute to the community by coordinating Wreaths Across America, weeding at the Ronald McDonald House, donating to local food cupboards, Dig Deep, Water for South Sudan, Nature Conservancy, Genesee Land Trust, and creating a wreath that is auctioned off at the George Eastman House to fund their projects.

Over the years, the Gates Garden Club has had many recognition awards for civic beautification, conservation, and special projects, from The Federated Garden Club.

The Gates Garden Club is a proud member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., Central Atlantic Region of State Garden Clubs, Inc., and the Federated Garden Clubs of NYS, Inc., 7th District, Section IV.
